ION SEVERIN
Born in the Republic of Moldova, Ion Severin is a full-time visual artist who works in three main areas: pen and ink drawing, painting and book illustration. A graduate of the Graphic Arts Department of the Ukrainian Academy of Printing of Lviv, Ukraine (1983), the artist is known for his precise, methodical style and as a master of detail and meticulous execution. Severin loves to play with different shapes in order to create unique images and a feeling of movement. His artworks are like a kaleidoscope which keeps changing, revealing many unexpected patterns. Each of his works challenges us to see beyond the initial impression and to let our imagination run free. The artist wants you to be creative and inspired. During French President Jacque Chirac’s official visit to Chisinau, Republic of Moldova, in 1998, Moldova’s President selected one of Severin’s artworks to be presented as a gift to President Chirac. Ion Severin has illustrated more than a hundred books, many of which have won awards at national and international book fairs and exhibitions. One prize the artist is the proudest of is Certificate of Honour for Illustration, awarded by IBBY President in Basel, Switzerland in 2002,

REGENERATION is not merely the title of this series of my graphic artworks, but a concept I believe in. Each being has the amazing ability to regenerate and to start afresh. We see this miracle of creation every day. I see and express it in my own style, my own vision. Life is more than the visible and the tangible. The most exciting part of the adventure of life is to dare to explore the invisible and the intangible. Through my work I can take you on such an adventure.
For me freedom is the supreme goal of all art. I am totally free in my creation, and I rejoice in this freedom. I would like to pass on this sensation of freedom to others. I would like you to look beyond the first impression, beyond the frame of the artwork, beyond all boundaries.
My artwork themselves speak much better than I could ever do. As an art lover, I am sure you will find your own message and your own meaning in my art.
