Sarah Sebastian
Sarah is an artist whose creative journey has been profoundly shaped by her rich cultural heritage and diverse experiences. Born in South Africa, she was surrounded by vibrant landscapes and complex social dynamics that sparked her passion for visual expression. The stark contrast between the natural beauty of her homeland and the civil conflicts of apartheid deeply influenced her artistic vision, motivating her to explore and communicate through art.
In her early years, Sarah traveled extensively through Botswana and Namibia, gaining an anthropological perspective that allowed her to adapt to and learn from various cultures. This exposure broadened her worldview and enriched her artistic sensibility, instilling in her a profound appreciation for diverse forms of beauty and expression.
My Story
Upon relocating to the U.K., Sarah immersed herself in European art, where she was profoundly influenced by the classical techniques of the Renaissance. Under the mentorship of the esteemed painter John Luce Lockett, she embraced the principles of oil painting and the Velazquez palette. This rigorous training, combined with her early exhibitions starting at the age of 19, enabled Sarah to develop a distinctive style that marries traditional methods with contemporary perspectives.

Throughout her career, Sarah has explored a diverse range of artistic fields, including West End theatre sets, tattoo designs, animation, and private commissions. Each of these experiences has enriched her versatile approach and deepened her understanding of various artistic disciplines.

In 2011, a serendipitous accident in her studio led to the creation of Sarah’s innovative Chemical Composition technique. This approach, born from an accidental spill of chemicals, blends artistic creation with scientific exploration. Although she did not initially consider herself a scientist, this technique has allowed Sarah to produce organic and ethereal forms that embody the essence of spontaneous creation.
Today, Sarah’s work reflects a fusion of her African heritage, Renaissance training, and scientific innovation. She has been honored to exhibit alongside renowned artists in prestigious venues such as London’s Oxo Tower. Her art stands as a testament to the unexpected intersections of culture, technique, and innovation that define her creative journey.
